Divergence Decoded – Autistic Consultants – Helping You Understand and Communicate With Your Autistic Loved One

Autistic and neurotypical people have vast differences in the way they see and communicate with the world. This can make it difficult for neurotypical people to know how to talk to an autistic person, and can also have a frustrating effect on teaching an autistic person.

You’re not alone. Divergence Decoded was created for neurotypical people to better understand their autistic loved one’s traits, intentions, and communication style.

In our Zoom meetings, we help translate autistic mannerisms in a way that makes sense to neurotypical people. How? Both Katherine and I are both autistic and ADHD, and we both have firsthand experience living as neurodivergent people!

This makes us uniquely qualified to understand the autistic person in your life, help you communicate with them more easily, reduce meltdowns, and teach the way they learn.

Whether you are a parent, partner, family member, friend, teacher, or employer of an autistic person, Divergence Decoded digs deep to get to the “whys” of autistic mannerisms, so they’re no longer a mystery to you.

We also offer insightful tips to teach you how to talk to your autistic loved one in a way they understand, which helps ease frustration on both sides.

We Do Not Use ABA

Both Katherine and I feel that applied behavioral analysis (ABA) focuses too much on trying to change an autistic person’s natural mannerisms to reflect neurotypical behavior. However, in reality, it’s not changing anything on the inside; it’s just teaching them to mask, which can be detrimental to the mental health of an autistic person.

We Care About Your Feelings, Too

Autistic consultants can sometimes get a reputation for focusing too much on the autistic person and their needs. We don’t do that. As a neurotypical person you’re free to vent to us, ask questions, cry, and talk about the difficult things that upset you. Your feelings are valid.
